The Race to the Top No Cost Extension provides the opportunity for both the state and all participating RttT districts and community schools to continue to deepen and refine the commitments of the Race to the Top state Scope of Work into the 2014-2015 school year.
WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU
Participation in the Race to the Top No Cost Extension assures each district and community school a network of continued support provided by the Ohio Department of Education during the duration of the extended grant period, even if there are no unspent funds available after Year 4.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE EXTENSION
Regional Coordinator and Specialist Support
Race to the Top school districts and community schools in Ohio will continue to
receive the support of six regional coordinators and 16 regional specialists in meeting
commitments and goals described in their approved Scope of Work.
Districts and community schools will continue to receive ongoing learning
opportunities related to implementation strategies, integrating new technology in
the classroom, meeting rigorous academic standards and building on instructional
Leadership Support and Team Building
Participation will continue to connect districts/community schools to resources,
support collaborative learning and shared decision-making and building teacher-level
teams that serve to support the work of Race to the Top.
Assessment Literacy and Support
Assistance in building expertise in understanding Next Generation Assessments, how
to design and select quality assessments and coordination with the Ohio Department
of Education for professional development, implementation and resources.
Ohio’s Instructional Improvement System Implementation
Race to the Top regional specialists will become credentialed as Instructional
Improvement System trainers to provide training for teachers, technical support and
troubleshooting implementation issues.
Ohio’s New Learning Standards
Participants will receive support in developing a deeper understanding of Ohio’s
New Learning Standards focusing on the instructional shifts and aligned selection of
instructional practices through ongoing professional development according to their
developmental and differentiated needs.
Student Learning Objectives/Student Growth Measures
Support in the development of high quality student growth measures, refining student
learning objectives and access appropriate resources.
Assistance in reviewing, reflecting, reporting and adjusting processes for
implementation of Ohio’s teacher and principal evaluation systems.
Formative Instructional Practices
Race to the Top specialists will work with districts and community schools to increase
formative instructional practices, use online learning modules and develop practices
proven to increase student achievement and growth.
